Puerto Princesa City Tour---- Cathedral Church and PPC Baywalk

Part of the itinerary for the Puerto Princesa City Tour are the historic Immaculate Conception Cathedral Church and the Puerto Princesa City Baywalk.

CATHEDRAL CHURCH

(Immaculate Conception Cathedral, Puerto Princesa City)

Located along Rizal Avenue in Baranggay Liwanag (just across the historic Plaza Cuartel) is one of the popular tourist destinations in the city of Puerto Princesa.

The Immaculate Conception of Mary is said to be the patroness of the cathedral church.

This blue-colored cathedral church is a century-old historical landmark which was built as a small church during the Spanish colonization of the Philippines and was only reconstructed into a cathedral in the year 1961.

It is an eye-catching structure due to its unique architectural design. The pointed arches of the church will remind you of the structures built during Medieval Europe.

1872 was the year when the first mass in Puerto Princesa was celebrated. Aside from the beauty and tranquility of its edifice, the church's history is what makes it an interesting place to see.

The Rizal Park is located just in front of the Cathedral Church. Getting here is very easy since it is accessible by public utility vehicles from anywhere in the city.

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY BAYWALK

A few blocks away from the Cathedral Church is the Puerto Princesa City Baywalk.

(Puerto Princesa City Baywalk)
It used to be a slum area but after a huge fire, the local government developed it into a baywalk. The people who used to reside in the area were not allowed to rebuild their houses in there anymore but the city government provided them with tenement houses a few meters away from the baywalk.

People go here, specially the locals, early in the morning to exercise by means of walking and jogging.

Some, just to relax and enjoy the beauty of the sunrise. You can also enjoy sipping a glass of taho (which you could buy from the taho vendors in the area) while enjoying the beautiful sunrise in here.

(Taho is a Philippine snack made from fresh soft tofu,
arnibal--sweetened flavoring made from melted sugar,
and sago--- similar to tapioca pearls.)
(Taho is enjoyed either with a spoon, sipping it with a straw, or
by simply slurping it straight from the cup.
Traditionally it is served warm)

As a local, I used to go here every morning to go walking and jogging (since it's just a few blocks away from my home). I really enjoy the beauty of my surroundings while exercising except the smell of the sea sometimes.

It is also a perfect place to witness the sunset and the sunrise. Locals and tourists alike go here to relax and unwind.

During the night it's busier, friends and families go here to have dinner (they have a strip of stalls in there which serves grilled seafood and a lot more), go strolling or biking.

For a small fee, you can already rent a bicycle or a bicycle with a side car.

(Puerto Princesa City Baywalk)

At the far end of the baywalk (the one near the pier area) is the area where the confiscated boats caught performing illegal activities in the waters of Palawan are being kept. There you can see the huge fishing vessels which were used by illegal Chinese poachers and fishermen that was caught by the coast guard of Palawan. At the opposite end is a "peryhan" with some amusement rides.

Most of the major events in the city and in the province are being held in the city's Baywalk. One of the most awaited events of the locals is the lighting of the Giant Christmas here in the Puerto Princesa City Baywalk which is being held annually every December. There are fireworks display after the lighting ceremony which is enjoyed the most by the locals and tourists alike.

(Giant Christmas Tree --- PPC Baywalk)
There was a time when the city's Giant Christmas Tree was declared as the tallest Christmas tree in the country. The city government always sees to it that the Giant Christmas Tree is put up every year for the residents to enjoy.

So that's it, the Immaculate Conception Cathedral and the city's Baywalk, two of the most frequented spots in Puerto Princesa City by the tourists and locals alike.
