SHIMIZU ISLAND (El Nido, Palawan)

MAY 2013 Visit

Named after a Japanese diver who died in an underwater tunnel in this island, Shimizu has long been considered as one of the nice snorkeling sites in El Nido's Tour A packages.

This was our second to the last stop during our combination tour of tours A and C.Our boat didn't dock at the shore of the island, the boat just stayed at an area in front of the island where most of the fishes are. We snorkeled and just enjoyed our time with the fishes. This island is my top 3 favorite among the 9 islands that I've visited.

According to our boatman, there is an underwater tunnel in the side of the Island, i just don't know if it's still open for diving because there was a Japanese diver who died in there long time ago.

Shimizu Island is also home to a variety of marine life. There are a lot of different fishes that you can see here, making snorkeling a lot  more fun! I enjoyed the fish feeding activity that we had. It's so entertaining to see the fishes eat the food that you're holding.

It's a fun experience seeing them gather around you to attack the food that you're offering to them. :) From small to medium, to large sizes of fish, and from stripes to colorful fishes, they're all here! You will really enjoy swimming with the fishes! :)

Aside from being home to a variety of fishes and other marine life, the island has a white-sand beach, which is a perfect picnic spot. It is a favorite lunch area and picnic spot of tourists and locals alike. No entrance fee is being collected in the island.

The picturesque view of Shimizu Island offers a good background for picture taking. The serenity of the place is also very relaxing and the sight of the limestone cliffs is just awesome.

MAY & JUNE 2015 Visit

Last May and June of 2015 was my second and third time to visit this island.

As usual, the islands of El Nido has this ability to make you feel as if it's your first time to visit its islands even if you've already been there before.

During my second visit at Shimizu, a beautiful sea turtle (pawikan) welcomed us in the island. It only shows us how rich the marine life in the island is.

 Last June 2015 (my third visit), we had our lunch stop over at Shimizu. It was my first time to step on the shore of its beautiful white sand beach. During my 1st and 2nd visit, we just stopped by the snorkeling site in front of this island and we weren't able to go to the island itself.

 Shimizu is not only known in El Nido as a good snorkeling site, but it's also popularly known as a lunch stop over spot of island hoppers particularly in the Island Hopping Tour A.

Our lunch consists of:

fish, and a lot more!

 We had an amazing lunch by the beach! If I may use my uncle's favorite line to describe our lunch by the beach, it's "Priceless!" :)

 You can go fish feeding before or after your lunch.

 As for us, we went fish feeding before lunch.

 While our boatmen were busy preparing our lunch, we went snorkeling and fish feeding. My aunt and her family really enjoyed feeding the fishes, there was a lot of fishes!

 The number and types of fishes are differing in the different snorkeling areas of Shimizu.

 There are a lot of different types of fishes there, but these are just some of the different fishes that you can see there.

 My favorite spot is at the deeper parts of the island's waters. It was during my first visit in this island that i had seen a variety of beautiful and colorful fishes. I even saw incredibly large fishes such as Suran (the one perfect for grilling) and I also saw a very colorful fish resembling the colors of the rainbow and neon colored fishes as well.


Shimizu island is really a perfect spot for fish feeding and snorkeling. It is really blessed with a rich marine life.
